Staunton Residence

Project Description

Staunton Residence

Located in one of Staunton’s historic residential neighborhoods, the design transforms a small grassy lot into a compelling garden composition that envelops the 1908 house and creates inviting and comfortable outdoor spaces for domestic enjoyment and social entertainment.  The garden’s organizational framework is based on traditional design concepts while the spatial use layout reflects contemporary needs.  The main brick terrace incorporates a subsurface stormwater management system that overflows into a riparian garden set below the limestone retaining wall and flagstone dining area.  Layered tapestries of native plants reference local plant communities, define garden spaces, support pollinators, and promote wildlife diversity.
