Project Description
University of Mary Washington
Fredericksburg, Virginia
The design unites a Civil War battlefield site, a1920’s home, and a new University events center into a compelling campus landscape that acknowledges significant historical resources and provides a multi-purpose, garden framework for meetings, social events and celebrations.
The Center offers overnight accommodations and dining, a grand ballroom, meeting spaces, and Alumni Foundation offices. The landscape program includes a strong gateway and arrival sequence, a multi-purpose arrival court, a series of interconnected garden spaces, walks and terraces, a robust planting of native species, water features, renovated cast-bronze gates, and specimen tree preservation.
